Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) – Congress composed this act to provide analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in Federal, State, and local institutions and information, resources, recommendations, and funding to protect individuals from prison rape.

Final Standards for Prisons and Jails – The Department of Justice issued this final rule adopting national standards to prevent, detect, and respond to prison rape, as required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003.

Bureau of Justice Statistics, Data Collection: Survey of Sexual Victimization – This administrative data collection is part of BJS's National Prison Rape Statistics Program, which gathers mandated data on the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault in correctional facilities, under the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA; P.L. 108-79). It is based on allegations of sexual victimization by other inmates or staff that are reported to correctional authorities.

LGBTQ-I Terminology – To appropriately respond to LGBTI inmates, it is useful to understand LGBTI-related terminology. Do your best to prepare yourself to understand and use these terms properly.

National PREA Resource Center - The PREA Resource Center (PRC) is working to address sexual safety in confinement, and to assist state and local jurisdictions with implementation of the Department of Justice National PREA Standards.
