Training

Training includes teaching and transferring knowledge and skills required for performing particular activities. Within a community corrections context, training can be delivered using a variety of methods, such as on-the-job training and shadowing, classroom or virtual delivery and the practical application of skills.

U.S. Courts – Probation and Pretrial Services Training Academy

State of Oregon Basic Training for Parole and Probation Officers (armed courses)
Date: 2020
The State of Oregon's basic training for parole and probation officers was revised and updated in 2020 to improve the firearms training program with the understanding that a sufficient revision would extend the duration of training. The curricula were piloted in 2019 and found it met objective and subjective benefits and recommended their its full adoption into the training academy. 

The Federal Probation and Pretrial Academy: Making a Well-Rounded Officer (YouTube Video)

This 16-minute, 55-second video produced by the US Courts provides an overview of the sixteen-week standardized training all new Federal Probation and Pretrial officers receive. This video shows the various areas of training and the methods used to ensure that graduates are well-rounded officers ready to serve when they return to their home districts. Officers learn basic core tasks in probation and pretrial, interpersonal skills and relationship building, investigative skills, self-defense, firearms safety, and more over a six-week course.
