This tool uses scripting to make it look nice and to enable some of the navigational aids. Other than that it is just a website that should run in any modern web browser. If you do have display problems, you may be using a very restrictive computer. Here are a list of possible things to try if you are having audio or video problems:
- Problem: Something is not working right.
Try: Reload the browser page. For most computers, you can press Ctrl+F5 right now to reload and start over. Can't promise this will fix everything but it's worth a shot! - Problem: When I click play, I see nothing but a black box.
Try: You may be using an older operating system that does not have the software needed to play videos. You will need to download something called a "codec pack." This is a bundle of video playing tools that will allow you to play a wide variety of videos on your computer. - Problem: The video is playing but I'm not hearing any audio.
Try: Start with checking the basics. Are you speakers plugged in/turned on/volume up? Is sound turned on for your computer? If you're sure that it's not your speakers or computer settings, you will need to download something called a "codec pack." This is a bundle of video playing tools that will allow you to play a wide variety of videos on your computer. - Problem: The navigation and layout seems messed up.
Try: You may be unable to use JavaScript in your browser. This is an administrative setting and you may need IT support to reenable JavaScript. Or, read this article to find out how to do it yourself.
As you browse to and click on titles, your web browser will ask you to either download the files or have them open up in a new window. If the files do not open for you, check to ensure you have the correct program installed to open the file. Here is a list of the file types used and how to open them:
Adobe PDF
This is a very common file format that allows you to view and print electronic documents. Most of the documents you will find on this tool are in this format. The latest version of the Adobe Reader application is always a free download.
HTML/Websites
Links with this icon will take you to websites. For these to work, you will need to be connected to the Internet when you click on them.
Video Files
In most cases, video files have been embedded into a player that will allow you to watch videos without having to download the files first. They should play directly in your browser using the controls of the video element.
ZIP Files (compressed folders)
These files are a container for multiple files. Your computer will most likely allow you to open them and browse their contents automatically, but you will probably be asked to save the files on your computer and then open them separately.
MS Office Files
Many of the curriculum packages listed contain files that are in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) format. While you will have the best results opening these files using MS Office, there are free alternatives.
